The Academic Staff College in the University of Kerala was instituted in 1987. The ASC now functions in the Golden Jubilee Building at Kariavattom with core – Academic Staff Consisting of a Professor who is also the Director and non-Academic Staff consisting of an Administrative Officer, a Selection Grade Assistant and a peon. Casual wage staff are also employed according to the need. Steps are being taken to appoint a lecturer in the core Staff.

UGC-Consortium for Educational Communication has provided Edusat facility to Academic Staff College. Many teachers from different Departments and the participants of Refresher Courses/ Orientation Programmes are making use of this facility.

ASC is equipped with a full fledged Computer Lab. We have two AC class rooms with audio visual equipments and facilities for power point presentation. We have conducted 30 Refresher Courses and 6 Orientation Programmes during the present financial year 2005-06. We propose to conduct 36 courses during the next financial year 2006-07.

The ASC publishes ‘UGC-ASC News’ twice a year. The first issue was published in June 2000 and altogether twelve issues have been brought out.
